Su padre un médico, que falleció de tifus cuando ella era todavía pequeña, le inculcó lo siguiente:

“Ayuda siempre al que se está ahogando, sin tomar en cuenta su religión o nacionalidad. Ayudar cada día a alguien tiene que ser una necesidad que salga del corazón”
